The Center for Applied Research and Evaluation (CARE)
Who We Are
The Center for Applied Research and Evaluation (CARE) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville provides top quality research services to a multitude of clients on local, state, and national levels.
In 2009, SWORPS acquired the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI), renaming it CARE. Under the direction of Linda Daugherty, who oversaw SSRI projects for over seven years and serves as CARE’s Assistant Director, SSRI staff have successfully accommodated the survey research needs of a wide range of customers in the fields of social work, transportation, civil engineering, public health, education, child care, human services, and exercise science, among others.
“If you go into research, you should never take a data set for granted. No serious researcher underestimates the importance of unbiased data that have been accurately gathered, recorded, and documented. No matter how sophisticated or statistically savvy the analysis may be, the end result of a research project will never be any better than the initial data.”
—Linda Daugherty, Assistant Director, CARE
Our expertise allows us to be involved at any stage of a project, from research design to implementation, analysis, and reporting. Our data-collection strategies are tailored to meet the specific needs of each client for managing information and answering important research questions.
Many factors determine the overall cost of each project, and these are discussed with the project’s key stakeholders before implementation.
